Once we’ve vacationed in a place we rarely return. We’ve been there, done that. We look for new places to see. On a rare occasion, we revisit a place that keeps drawing us back. Sanibel Island is one of those places.
Sanibel offers one of the best shelling beaches in the world. In the summer, the ocean water is warm. The island has numerous bike trails. And, if that wasn’t enough, low key development (no high rises!) and lots of open space appeals to us.
Our latest trip to Sanibel was with our daughter, Kirsten, her husband, Ian, and our grandsons, Luke (3 yr old) and Nick (8 mo old). We stayed at the Caribe Beach Resort, an old-fashioned kind of place with Murphy beds and kitchens. The Caribe has bicycles for guests, a small pool, and is located on the beach.
We never left the island during the week. Every day we walked for miles on the beach and shelled. Every day we bathed in the water – ocean and pool. We enjoyed biking to shops, ice cream stands, or to Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge. We visited the library with the grandchildren to read books.
